Fee Structure

At McClure Collins, Solicitors we operate a fee charging system which is in accordance with the Law Society of Scotland’s Table of Fees. We charge only the minimum recommended rate for work done and you will find that the cost of your legal work with us is very competitive.

The feeing structure is based on the Unit presently set at £9.40. For example one hour of interview time is charged at 10 units, a letter at 1.25 units per page of 125 words, and telephone calls at 1 unit if under 6 minutes in length.

Your first interview is free and if we are in a position to help you we will send you a letter of engagement indicating the nature of the work you have instructed us to complete for you, a quotation for that work, information in relation to likely timescales involved and what level of service you can expect from the solicitor dealing with your file.

Upon request we can render interim fee notes throughout the progress of the case so that the final cost of the work can be kept within manageable limits. As a matter of practice we will not place you in a position where large amounts of work are done without advising you first and obtaining your authorisation to proceed. In a nutshell, with this firm, there will be no surprises as the fee will be agreed before you are committed to the case.

If you are involved in a court action and you are successful we may be in a position to obtain an award of expenses against the opposition. On the assumption that they are able to meet your expenses this will ultimately result in the final cost of the case for you being reduced. Only very rarely, and in exceptional circumstances, will an award of expenses cover all of your solicitors fees but this aspect of the court action is nonetheless a very important one and can often be crucial in reaching a settlement where the opposition are made aware that they will have to meet your expenses in the event that you are successful.
