The Divorce

No one sets out to get divorced but when relationships come to an end things can get pretty complicated.

The first thing to do is consult an experienced solicitor and find out what the options are.

We plenty of detail on the Law on Divorce, Mediation and Simplified Divorce on this site but if you need any more information or a lawyers advice just telephone or e-mail us.

Under the Divorce( Scotland ) Act 1976 a divorce can only be granted to a Pursuer/applicant where he or she can establish the "irretrievable breakdown of marriage". In terms of the Act this means that the pursuer will have to show that the breakdown has been established by one of the Five grounds. These are Adultery, Unreasonable Behaviour, 2 year separation with consent, 5 year separation, and desertion
